The race takes place in Niigata City, about two hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen. It starts at the Denka Big Swan Stadium, a venue from the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The course runs through the vibrant "Niigata 2km" area, which connects the nationally designated Important Cultural Property "Bandai Bridge" to Furumachi, along the Shinano River - the longest river in Japan - and along the coast of the Sea of Japan with views of Sado Island. The course also passes through one of the few underwater tunnels in Japan, allowing visitors to enjoy the charms of Niigata's richly varied landscape.

After crossing the finish line, you'll be treated to freshly made jumbo rice balls using world-renowned Niigata-grown Koshihikari rice (or a packed one), as well as freshly grilled mochi - a perfect reward for your efforts.

This event is known for its welcoming atmosphere from start to finish.
The roadside support is heartfelt, with many cheering spectators, taiko drum and brass band performances, and cheerleading routines.
