

Course with a spectacular view of Suonada and Hibikinada
This is one of the few events where you can run while viewing the Kanmon Bridge over the Kanmon Straits. The first half is Suonada (Seto Inland Sea), and the second half is Hibikinada (Sea of Japan). The second half is Hibikinada. The course is a seaside course with different types of spectacular views.
The second half is a tough and difficult course!
While the first half of the race is flat, the second half turns into a tough course with plenty of ups and downs. Some runners even make this race an annual event to strengthen their running skills.

About Shimonoseki
Shimonoseki City, at Honshu’s western tip, is a key gateway between Honshu and Kyushu.
Historically, Shimonoseki was the site of important events such as the Dannoura Battle in 1185, which ended a major civil war, and it played a key role during the Meiji Restoration, a period when Japan modernized and opened to the world. The city’s proximity to the continent fostered cultural exchange with China and Korea.

1. Kanmon Strait
The Kanmon Strait is a narrow waterway that separates Honshu (Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture) from Kyushu (Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture). It connects the Sea of Japan with the Seto Inland Sea. Known for its strong currents, the strait has historical importance, including the Battle of Dannoura (1185). Today, it remains a busy shipping route, connected by the famous Kanmon Bridge and Kanmon Tunnel.
2. Kanmon Tunnel
This 780-meter undersea tunnel links Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu. It has two levels: an upper road for vehicles and a lower pedestrian walkway. Visitors can walk through the tunnel in about 15 minutes, even crossing the prefectural border inside it—a unique photo opportunity.


3. Dannoura

Dannoura is a historic site in the Kanmon Strait, known for the decisive 1185 battle that ended the Genpei War and the rule of the Taira clan.
4. Ganryujima Island

An uninhabited island famous for the legendary 1612 duel between swordsmen Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro.

Shimonoseki is famous for its premium blowfish (fugu), especially the high-end torafugu, served at many top restaurants. Besides fugu, the city offers delicious seafood like kaisendon (seafood rice bowls) and squid dishes.
A must-try local specialty is Kawara-Soba, Yamaguchi’s signature dish featuring flavorful buckwheat noodles served sizzling on a hot tile with toppings like broiled egg and sweet-spicy beef, accompanied by a rich dipping sauce.
Yamaguchi is also known for its sake, including the globally acclaimed Dassai, a high-quality junmai daiginjo with a fruity aroma and crisp taste.
