International! A Race to Foster Bonds and Friendship
The NAHA Marathon, with a capacity of 30,000 runners, is now one of Japan’s premier sporting events. Launched in 1985 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Naha and Honolulu, this marathon serves as a platform for locals and participants from Japan and abroad to connect, enjoy, and strengthen bonds of friendship.
The 42.195 km full marathon course, passing through Peace Memorial Park at its midpoint, offers an exciting running experience for beginners and experienced runners!
Moved by Okinawa’s Cheerful and Heartwarming Support!
Known as the “Festival of Sun, Sea, and Joggers,” the NAHA Marathon takes place in December, when Okinawa enjoys a mild subtropical climate. Runners can take in stunning views of the blue ocean, sugarcane fields, and more while enjoying the comfortable winter warmth.
Along the course, expect vibrant performances of Eisa (Okinawa’s traditional drum dance) and sanshin (a traditional Okinawan stringed instrument), heartfelt private aid stations, and continuous enthusiastic cheering from locals. Running while experiencing Okinawa’s unique culture and warm hospitality will create unforgettable memories!

A Meaningful Route Through Peace Memorial Park
At the midpoint of the course lies the Peace Memorial Park and the Himeyuri Monument, sites that commemorate the history of the Battle of Okinawa. These landmarks convey messages of peace and provide runners with an opportunity to reflect on Japan’s modern history. The integration of cultural and historical elements adds depth to the marathon, making it more than just a race—it’s an experience that resonates.
