A Vibrant, Internationally Rich Event

The Tokushima Marathon, held every late March in Tokushima Prefecture, is the largest citizens’ full marathon in Shikoku and one of Japan’s most popular events.
In 2025, a record 181 international runners from places such as Hong Kong and the United States took part, making it a truly global and colorful celebration.

It’s a “fun-to-run” race that blends Tokushima’s nature, culture, and warm hospitality, welcoming everyone from first-time runners to elite athletes.

A Course Filled with Beautiful, Classic Japanese Scenery

Run with the majestic flow of the Yoshino River below you and the graceful, eyebrow-shaped ridge of Mount Bizan in view. The current course will be used for the final time this year – it will be renewed starting next year!

In spring, the route is lined with vibrant yellow rapeseed blossoms, creating a refreshing and enjoyable flat course. With minimal elevation changes and a generous 7-hour time limit, even beginners and sightseeing runners can finish comfortably.

Famous for Its Amazing Spectator Support!

At all 22 official cheer stations along the full marathon course, local Tokushima citizens gather with the motto: “Let’s give runners the magical boost of ‘Magic Hour’!”
Live music, Awa Odori dancing, cheer performances, and more – the varied, heartfelt support turns fatigue and pain into smiles!

After the Finish Line – Cruise to the Event Area by Boat!

The “Runner’s Cruise” service takes finishers from the finish area to the central event plaza by free shuttle boat (and bus).
Many runners say the gentle breeze and scenic river views from the boat become one of their best memories of the day!

Before or after the race, enjoy iconic Tokushima experiences nearby Awa Odori dance halls The Mount Bizan ropeway, Boat tours to see the famous Naruto whirlpools.
