Only 12 Japanese castles still have their original keep towers standing. Among these, 5 are designated as
National Treasures. The oldest and most historically significant of these 5 National Treasure castles is
Inuyama Castle in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture.
The “Yomiuri Inuyama Half Marathon” is an officially certified half marathon course where runners can
gaze up at Japan's oldest wooden keep tower, built 490 years ago at Inuyama Castle. The course runs from
Inuyama city center through farmland, along the Japanese Rhine (Kiso River), and is remarkably flat and
easy to run, earning a reputation as a course conducive to fast times.
It's recommended not only for runners aiming for a personal best but also for beginners who enjoy an
easy run with scenic views. This event satisfies even the most ambitious runners who are castle fans,
history buffs, or want to enjoy sightseeing.
