The Vast Cabbage Fields Spreading Across the Highlands Are Breathtaking!
Tsumagoi Village in Gunma Prefecture, the venue for the race, is Japan's top producer of summer and autumn cabbage.
The course of the "Tsumagoi Cabbage Marathon," held in early July, takes runners through stunning scenery with cabbage fields stretching as far as the eye can see. It is an incredibly unique experience and highly photogenic.
The background to the cabbage fields is a highland area dominated by the majestic active volcano Mt. Asama. Runners are also treated to dynamic volcanic landscapes and views of Baragi Lake. Many say it feels just like Hokkaido!
Unlike the humid heat of Japan's urban areas, the refreshing highland climate makes for a comfortable and pleasant run.

Participants Receive a Whole Fresh Tsumagoi Highland Cabbage as a Souvenir!
At the aid stations and in the finish area, you can enjoy sweet and juicy freshly harvested cabbage and cucumbers with salt, mayonnaise, or various dressings. Receiving a whole head of farm-fresh cabbage plus original goods is one of the biggest attractions of this event. It truly is a race filled with cabbage from start to finish!

A Challenging and Rewarding Course
Self-proclaimed as "Japan's toughest road race," the course features intense ups and downs, including a steep climb of nearly 2 km near the finish! The sense of accomplishment after running along the spectacular skyline is exceptional.
Held at an altitude of approximately 1,200–1,370 m, it is perfect for those who want serious highland training.
Shorter distances for beginners (10 km, 5.4 km, 2 km) are also available, along with parent-child pair and husband-wife pair categories, making it easy for families and friends to participate together.

The Sacred Land for Devoted Husbands!
Tsumagoi Village is known as the "Sacred Land for Loving Wives" (the characters for 'Tsuma' meaning wife and 'Koi' meaning love). There is even a special spot where you can shout your love for your wife!
As part of promoting "trips that create quality time with your spouse," the race offers a Husband-and-Wife Pair Division (10 km). Run together with your partner or spouse and create unforgettable memories as you cross the finish line!

A Warm and Welcoming Race That Anyone Can Join
The event is foreigner-friendly, with an English brochure and a venue guide available. Many volunteers, including local children, provide cheerful support at the aid stations and along the course.
It is relatively easy to access from Tokyo by car or by train and shuttle bus. With around 3,000 participants, it's the perfect size — not too crowded and very manageable.
There are also day-use hot springs near the venue in the Tsumagoi Highland area, making it perfect for a relaxing cooldown after the race!
