Two Stunning Seaside Courses: Suō-nada and Hibikinada!
The first half takes you along a flat course facing the Suō-nada Sea of the Seto Inland Sea. Run with spectacular views of the magnificent Kanmon Bridge spanning the Kanmon Strait while passing Dan-no-ura, the historic battleground where the Genji and Heike clans fought their legendary final battle, and Akama Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Antoku, who died at the age of eight, who tragically lost his life during the conflict. This unique course allows you to experience Japan's rich history and culture with every stride.
Offshore lies Ganryū-jima (Ganryu Island), famous as the site of the legendary duel between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojirō. You can run while imagining the dramatic historical events that unfolded here.
In contrast, the second half is a tougher course with rolling ups and downs facing the Hibiki-nada, part of the Sea of Japan.Runners from overseas particularly praise this rare opportunity to enjoy two completely different breathtaking seascapes.

Immense Sense of Achievement! Powerful Local Support Along the Course
Even during the challenging uphill and downhill sections of the second half, enthusiastic local spectators cheer you on every step of the way. Every year, many runners say that they are deeply moved by the warm encouragement from spectators every year .
Comments include: “The student volunteers and kind cheers from locals were incredibly uplifting,” and “The brass bands and Heike Taiko drum performances really boosted my spirits.”

Shuttle Buses Available for Spectators!
There are five cheering zones along the later part of the course, away from the main venue. Shuttle buses run from the start/finish area to these zones, allowing family and friends to watch comfortably and enjoy supporting the runners.
Warm Hospitality with Local Gourmet Delights
Aid stations are placed at relatively short intervals and offer cool towels, jelly, somen noodles, chikuwa, and more to refresh runners.
After the finish, there is also a complimentary fugu (pufferfish) hot pot using Shimonoseki’s famous specialty! The rich local hospitality is very well received.

Excellent Access – Just a Short Walk from JR Station
The venue, Ovision Kaikyo Street in front of Kaikyo Messe Shimonoseki, is only about a 10-minute walk from JR Shimonoseki Station. The race is easily accessible by public transport. It also pairs perfectly with sightseeing—you can easily take a day trip to Mojiko Retro - a historic port town known for its nostalgic atmosphere and beautiful architecture-or other parts of Kyushu.
